FAMILY ALBUM – the hats an their maker, 1940s

One of my style icons is my boyfriends grandmother. She was a hat maker and I found some stunning pictures of her as a young woman, shot in the 30s or 40s. She died a few years ago before I could meet her (and learn some hat making skills), but her house is still full of old things and photos.

Some of her hats are still in the family, but nobody wears them anymore, as hats are a bit out of fashion and have to compliment the rest of the outfit, so they don’t fit to jeans and T-shirts.
I have to find out more about this phenomenal women and her style next time we visit the house.
